Angela Ilić talks to IKGS Associated Scholar 2024 Dr. Anja Moric (Ljubljana) about the digitalization of photographic material on the Gottschee/Kočevsko region.

The IKGS photo archives contains several hundred historical photographs and negatives from Gottschee in the Republic of Slovenia, where a numerically significant German population had lived until 1941. Between September and December 2023, this collection was evaluated and prepared for digitization as part of a project funded by the Bavarian State Ministry for Family, Labor and Social Affairs.

Dr. Moric, who has been conducting research on Gottschee for twenty years, explains some of the difficulties involved in identifying the locations of certain images, shares unexpected discoveries, and speaks about the importance of this photographic collection within a global context.
