The 2025 Triennial Conference of the SRS in Cluj-Napoca will mark 50 years since the creation of the Society for Romanian Studies. The conference theme aims to encourage a critical engagement with and deconstruction of dominant narratives of identity, history and culture whilst embracing alternative perspectives and voices heretofore considered marginal to Romanian Studies.

Tamara Scheer (Institut für Osteuropäische Geschichte, Universität Wien) has recently been granted an FWF project entitled „Language Diversity and Dynamic Interdependencies between Roman Catholic Church Dioceses and Dualist Austrian State Institutions“. The project grant includes a postdoctoral position and she aims to appoint this researcher in early autumn 2024 so that the contract can start at the beginning of the project (January 1, 2025).

Der „Schroubek-Fonds Östliches Europa“ hat das Ziel, die Beschäftigung mit den Ländern, Gesellschaften und kulturellen Kontexten des östlichen Europa zu fördern und insbesondere das Wissen über die kulturellen Beziehungen zwischen dieser Region und dem deutschen Sprachraum zu erweitern.

Das Förderprogramm umfasst Sprachkurse, Stipendien, Workshops, Preise für Abschlussarbeiten, Dozent*innenaustausch, Gastvorträge, Tagungen, Publikationen und Ausstellungen.

The Institute of Ethnomusicology ZRC SAZU invites paper submissions for the International Conference „Ours, Yours, Theirs, No One’s? Heritage of Multicultural Areas.“

The aim of the conference is to shed light on the role and understanding of heritage and heritagisation processes in border areas, where different cultures and languages have traditionally come into contact.

The conference is part of the research project „The Weight of the past. Heritage of the Multicultural Area: Case Study of Gottschee“

Wir gratulieren Iris Wolff, die für ihren Roman „Lichtungen“ mit dem Uwe-Johnson-Preis 2024 ausgezeichnet wurde, ganz herzlich.

Die Jury würdigt den Roman als Spurensuche, der es wie bei Uwe Johnson darum gehe, „erzählend eine Wirklichkeit, die vergangen ist, wiederherzustellen. Dabei wird offenbar, auf welche Weise die Zeitläufe in das Leben des einzelnen eingreifen und es zu Brüchen in der Biografie gekommen ist.“
