In der neuesten Ausgabe der Zeitschrift „Journal of Croatian Studies“ ist eine Rezension der Monografie über Rijeka und Maribor von PD Dr. Angela Ilić erschienen. Filip Šimetin Šegvić von der Universität Zagreb schreibt: „Ilic’s book delivers on its main objective: it introduces readers to a thorough and persuasive analysis of the complexity of the urban and local identities of Rijeka and Maribor“. Er lobt die gründliche Recherche: „The remarkable effort invested in this book is also evident in the diversity of sources Ilic consulted.“ Am Ende fasst er seine Beobachtungen auf folgender Weise zusammen: „Ilic’s work essentially represents a compelling and persuasive work of scholarship that will encourage further research, both to deepen our understanding of urban areas within the Hapsburg Empire, as well as of processes at the level of the entire monarchy and across Central and Southeastern Europe.“
